Connect to MCP

Orbit’s MCP connection lets an AI client work from the same wiki as your team.

Use this when you want an AI or automation client to help with notes while working through Orbit’s permission model.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Open Connect to MCP.
  3. Copy the MCP URL.
  4. Paste it into your MCP-compatible client.

If you are inside a workspace, Orbit also shows workspace context that you can copy.

Workspace context tells the external client which workspace you want it to work in.

Copy it when asking for workspace-wide help such as:

  • Search this workspace.
  • Create a new note in this workspace.
  • Summarize related notes.
  • Build a knowledge index.

When available, note context includes the current note identifier.

Copy it when asking for note-specific work such as:

  • Update this note.
  • Add action items.
  • Summarize the note.
  • Check links from this note.

External clients do not get extra access. Microsoft 365 permissions and Orbit authorization still decide what can be read or written.

The external client may have its own data handling, retention, logging, and administrator controls. Review those controls before connecting it to sensitive workspaces.

For the broader trust model, see Data Handling and Permissions.

For tool capabilities, see MCP Tools and Skills Reference.
