OneDrive Workspaces

A OneDrive workspace stores Orbit notes in a folder in a user’s OneDrive.

Use OneDrive workspaces for:

  • Personal notes.
  • Private drafts.
  • Early exploration before a team workspace exists.
  • Small collaborations where the owner is clear.

Avoid OneDrive workspaces for long-lived team knowledge.

Reasons:

  • The workspace is tied to a person’s OneDrive ownership.
  • Team lifecycle is harder to manage.
  • Access recovery may depend on the OneDrive owner or admin process.
  • SharePoint usually has clearer governance for shared knowledge.

Orbit still uses Microsoft 365 permissions. If a teammate cannot open a note, check both the Orbit share and the OneDrive file/folder access.

If a personal workspace becomes team knowledge, create a SharePoint workspace and move or import the long-term notes there. Keep the OneDrive workspace for drafts only.
