Core Concepts
These are the product terms used throughout Orbit.
Workspace
Section titled “Workspace”A workspace is the place you open in Orbit to see a set of notes, folders, templates, and links. Use the workspace switcher to move between My Workspace and team workspaces.
A note is a page in the workspace wiki. Notes can include headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes, tables, images, diagrams, embedded media, wiki links, and comments.
People write and review notes in Orbit.
Folder
Section titled “Folder”A folder groups notes inside a workspace. Orbit shows folders in the left navigation. The root note area appears as Notes.
Access
Section titled “Access”Access controls who can open, edit, and share workspace content. Orbit keeps access aligned with your organization’s Microsoft 365 permissions.

Note-specific share
Section titled “Note-specific share”A note-specific share gives someone direct access to a single note. Use it when a person should not browse the whole workspace.
Note-specific shares can be view or edit links, depending on the role you choose.
Knowledge graph
Section titled “Knowledge graph”The knowledge graph is built from links between notes. It helps you see which notes reference each other and where a topic fits in the workspace.
Backlink
Section titled “Backlink”A backlink is a reference from another note to the note you are viewing. Backlinks answer: “Where is this note mentioned?”
