Templates

Templates turn repeated note formats — meeting notes, briefs, decision records — into a shared starting point.

  1. In the sidebar, click the New (+) button next to the Notes header, then choose New note from template.
  2. The Explore Templates dialog opens with two sources: Orbit templates (built-in) and Custom templates (saved by your team — including your other workspaces).
  3. Select a template to preview it, then choose Create note.

The new note is named after the template and lands pre-filled, ready to edit.

Every empty note offers Quick starts: Blank page, Project Brief, Team Decision, Project Planning, and Meeting Notes. Click one to apply it. The Sample content toggle fills quick starts with example text so you can see the shape before committing.

For the full library, choose Browse templates in the empty note, then pick a template and choose Use template.

Use Search templates in the dialog to filter by name.

  1. Open the note whose structure you want to reuse.
  2. Open the note’s More (…) menu and choose Save as template.

The note’s title becomes the template name and its content becomes the starting content. The template appears under Custom templates in Explore Templates for everyone in that workspace — templates are saved per workspace.

  1. Open Settings and choose Templates (or click Manage templates in the Explore Templates dialog).
  2. Search the workspace library and remove outdated templates with Delete template.

Everyone can browse here; writers and above can delete workspace templates.

Does applying a template overwrite my note? Templates apply to empty notes as their starting content. Review and edit freely afterwards — the note is a normal note, not linked to the template.

Can I use a template from another workspace? Yes. The Custom templates tab in Explore Templates lists templates from your other workspaces alongside this one, each labeled with its workspace. Using one copies it — images included — into the current workspace.

Up next: Import files — bring existing documents into Orbit.
