Automate recurring reports

Monday, 8:02 AM. A note called Pipeline report — 2026-08-24 appears in your team’s Reports folder: deals by stage, what moved last week, three deals that need attention — each claim linked to its source. Nobody wrote it. Your AI agent pulled the pipeline from the CRM, compared it against last week’s report, and filed the result in Orbit, where the team reads it alongside everything else they share.

That’s the routine this page teaches you to set up. It takes about fifteen minutes once, and it’s the reason Orbit connects to AI clients at all: your agent does the gathering and drafting; Orbit keeps the result where your team works. Chat threads disappear — notes stay, get commented on, and become team knowledge.

How a routine works

Three pieces, each set up once:

1. The connection. Your AI client (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot) gets the Orbit connector, so it can read and write your notes — as you, under your permissions. If the routine draws on other tools, the same client also carries those connectors (your CRM, Jira, GitHub, Outlook). Orbit never talks to those tools itself — your agent does.
2. The MCP template. An MCP template is a note that contains the agent’s instructions and the report’s format. Because the instructions live in a note, your entire prompt is: “Open this note and follow its Agent instructions.” No prompt engineering — and anyone on the team can read or refine the routine by editing the note.
3. The schedule. You tell your client to repeat it: in Claude, “do this every Monday at 8:00 in my time zone” creates a scheduled task; in ChatGPT, the same message becomes a Task. On demand works too — some MCP templates (like meeting notes) are meant to be run when needed.

Set one up

1. Open MCP templates (next to Browse templates on any empty note, or from the home page) and pick one. Two work with nothing but Orbit — Weekly workspace digest is the fastest first win.
2. Choose the workspace it lives in, and Orbit creates the template note there.
3. Copy the starter prompt from the setup dialog into your AI client and run it once. Watch the report appear in the file tree.
4. Add the schedule sentence, and you’re done.

Every report an MCP template produces ends with a small signature line — Drafted by Claude via Orbit · 2026-08-24 — so when a teammate asks “wait, how does this write itself?”, the answer is right there.

Tip

You don’t need everyone on the team to set this up. One person creates the routine; everyone else just reads the reports in the shared workspace or Teams. That’s the point.

Note

The agent acts as the person who runs it: it can only read what they can read, and its notes appear under their name with their editor seat. Schedules live in the AI client, not in Orbit — pausing or changing them happens there.
