Ask chat history

Ask saves completed answers automatically in your own OneDrive. Your history, conversation titles, citations, pins and archived chats follow your Microsoft account across devices.

The files live in a separate Orbit Chat History folder. Orbit does not share this folder with your workspace or add its conversations to the workspace’s note index. Your organization’s Microsoft 365 permissions and retention policies apply.

Choose a chat from the history sidebar to reopen it. You can rename, pin, archive or delete a conversation as before. A conversation keeps its original workspace even if you open it while viewing another workspace.

Answers appear immediately while history saves in the background. If OneDrive is unavailable, your answer remains in the current session and Orbit retries saving. Use Retry if the message remains, and keep the tab open until the save succeeds.

If another device changed the same conversation, Save a copy keeps your current conversation without replacing the other device’s messages.

Deleting a conversation removes it from Orbit history. Previous file versions may remain subject to your organization’s Microsoft 365 retention policies.

Earlier conversations move to OneDrive as you return to Orbit. Orbit verifies each saved copy before removing its old live database record. An interrupted move is retried; your earlier record is retained until the move is verified. Historical database backups expire separately under Orbit’s backup retention policy.

Orbit processes questions and answers to provide Ask, including sending context to the configured AI provider. Storing history in OneDrive does not mean processing takes place entirely inside your tenant. Operational telemetry does not contain your questions or answers. Ratings and comments you explicitly submit through the feedback dialog are shared with the Orbit team as described in that dialog.
